A Veil of Shadows by Michael W. Garza | A great continuation to Naomi’s and Gavin’s adventures! + GIVEAWAY

Earlier this year I read and reviewed the first book in The Shadow Gate Chronicles  – «The Last Shadow Gate» by Michael W. Garza and it was a very whimsical experience. Make sure to check my review on the first book before reading this one!

Thank you YA Bound Book Tours for giving me the opportunity to continue reading this series and to provide my opinion on Naomi’s and Gavin’s adventures.

A veil of shadows ebookA desperate search leads to a new world.

Naomi and Gavin are on the run. Having narrowly escaped Azzmon’s clutches, they find themselves hunted by Malick, another Shade Lord. He has amassed an army of foul creatures, and the city-state of Tarravale stands on the brink of chaos. Naomi’s ability to open Shadow Gates makes her an alluring target, and the Shade Lord will stop at nothing to possess her. The children must find a way to escape before their new world is buried in an unwinnable war.

Michael W. Ganza has the amazing skill to write the most gripping adventures. We find Naomi and Gavin in a new world and things are never easy for them.

The pacing of the events resembles the first book a lot, meaning that the main characters are constantly facing new challenges. The plot is very fast-paced, thrilling and does not feel repetitive in any way.

The book is classified as YA fantasy, but I think middle-grade readers might enjoy it as well. There are a few scenes that can be a little bit harsh, but overall it is a great adventure-based series. Think about it as Narnia on steroids, filled by bigger worlds, different array of creatures and races that we haven’t heard of before and of course, greater danger!

We meet so many new races and creatures, that are completely out of this world – Treekin, Serpent-kind and numerous other kinds!

What I loved the most about the second installment were various support characters. They were fun, witty, sarcastic and just amazing to read about!

My rating:

★★★★☆ / 5
