Looking Back at the 2010s | ft. Backwards Bucketlist!

2010s wasn’t an “easy” decade. This was basically the decade of my 20s – the time of changes, of finding yourself and your place in this world, and of course the time of new experiences. This is when we graduate from University, look for our first serious jobs, or pursue academic careers, and are forced to make many important and life-affecting decisions.

I saw this Backwards Bucketlist on zoella.co.uk. I used some of the prompts from there that applied to me and removed others. But if you’d like to see the full list and also get the printables, make sure to check Zoella’s blog!

started

WhimsyPages! This blog was born in 2016 and I’ve been loving every second of this experience.

Finished

Law School. I graduated from Law School in 2015. This past decade has been focused more on studying, working, all the fun stuff.

Learnt

How to drive! A couple of years ago I got my driving license. But in general, I learnt a lot of things. From Uni classes to actual court practice and tons of work experience, dealing with clients and just people around. I feel like this last decade impacted me the most.

visited

Holland, Spain, multiple towns in Portugal and Hong Kong!

tried

Video Gaming! I never thought I’d love gaming so much, but I did. It was definitely a fun experience.

improved

Since we are speaking about the whole decade, I guess my language skills. In 2008 I moved to Portugal and had to learn a new language without any preparation for it. So in 2010s I worked hard to constantly improving my Portuguese.

READ

In English. This was the decade when I finally stopped being afraid of reading books in foreign languages.

GAINED

Communication skills. I used to be so shy to talk to people or approach someone I don’t know. But all the experiences I went through in the last 10 years helped me greatly to “lose” this fear of mine.

ACHIEVED

Positive mindset. Overall, I’ve always been a positive person and in general, I can reign my emotions very well. But when multiple things start to stress me out, it becomes more difficult to stay calm and focused. I feel like I’ve been better at overcoming the “day-to-day” stress and focus my mind on positive and important things.

DISCOVERED

Love? 😀 ❤

BEEN PROUD OF

Not abandoning my blog after a couple of months. This might not seem like the biggest or most important achievement for some of you, but for me, that was a big deal. I’ve never taken a “hobby” so seriously before and the fact that it’s now been almost 4 years of me blogging is absolutely mind-blowing!

Overall, 2010s had some very important events and self-discoveries, and I’m glad to finish this decade while I’m in a very good place in terms of work, family, my love life, and even this “little” hobby. 🥂

  1. I loved reading this! You put a lot of perspective into the 2010s for me! I completely forgot that I also learned to drive in the last decade as well as graduated university and held 2 “real” jobs, just woah!
    Here’s to a brand new decade! 😀 💞

    1. Thank you, hun ❤ It feels like some things happened ages ago, so I think it's nice to look back and sometimes pat ourselves on the back 😀 I think my only 2 goals for the 2020s is to finally become a lawyer and buy an apartment. *fingers crossed*

  2. It looks like you accomplished so many things over the last decade, which is so amazing! I am happy that you ended it in a really good place. That’s so important! By the way, I am also proud that I didn’t abandon my blog after a couple of months. I’ve tried to blog so many different times over the years and never stuck to it, but I actually did this time around too and that’s huge. Haha. Yay us!

    1. 10 years is a lot of time to get things done! I feel like the older I get the faster time starts to run. 5 years ago my days at work were soooo long, now I don’t even notice how weeks pass, it’s like my weeks only have Mondays and Fridays. Lol

Yay us! ❤ I never thought this "hobby" would last so long, but this community is so wonderful that it's impossible to leave it 😀

  3. What a fun post. You did so much stuff! Congratulations on everything, especially finishing Law school, that’s a tough one. You visited The Netherlands and you didn’t even stop by my house? How dare you! 😂 Hurray for discovering love! I’m so happy for you. Here’s to another great decade ❤

    1. Thank you, hun ❤
I loved my time at uni, I would definitely got back there if I could. Adulting and real job is way harder than I thought it would be. Lol

Oh, my! My ex is half Dutch, so we went to visit his grandma in Tilberg. But I'd love to visit Amsterdam once I'm done with the bar exams, etc. 🙂

      1. You’re welcome! 🙂 I can defintely Imagine that! I’m at the point where I’m transitioning between uni and a real job. I’m kind of ready for it but also nervous and I already know I’ll be missing uni in no time haha.

I hope you had fun when yoy visited! Amsterdam is one if those must go places, to have experienced it at least once. But it’s also extremely chaotic 😂

  4. This was so lovely and cheerful! I’m so glad to hear your decade was amazing (even more so that you improved your Portuguese AND created your blog AND you’re still here – I appreciate you very much ❤ )! My 2010s was a messed up decade, because I caught everything: middle school, high school and early college. It involved a lot of fake friendships, family drama, figuring out what I wanted to in the future, growing up … I don't remember much from middle school except the bad, and I have mixed opinions about high school (lots of good memories but also lots of drama), and so the best years were definitely the latest. I found myself in college, in what I'm studying, in most relationships I keep, in what I'm doing … even though I can't skip all the bad, I can definitely find lots of good! I bet the next ten years will also be crazy because, yes, I'll live my 20s, I'll finish my degree, figure myself out a bit more, get a job hopefully … I'm scared but also very excited! Thank you for sharing your decade with us 😀

    1. Thank you so much, hun ❤ Your 2010s were FUN! I mean… nothing compares to the school drama 😀 I never used to be a part of it when I was in school but loved observing from the distance, lol.
And your 2020s will be incredible, with all the big changes! There were definitely a lot of difficult moments in my 20s (I still have two years left before I'm 30 D: ), but I always try to focus on the big positive things. Adulting is not as easy as I thought it would be. 😀

      1. Same – somehow, I was only in the middle of the drama once (my classmates were so picky and meanie they’d really annoy everyone, it surprised me it only happened once with me) but I’d always watch from the distance 😛
Yeah, I can definitely believe you on that (adulting not being easy, I mean). But I have great hopes!! I hope you have a great twenty twenty ❤
