The Harry Potter Book Tag | Beware of the spoilers!

As we are getting closer to the end of August, which means the end of the NEWTs read-a-thon (with me miserably failing to read the books on my NEWTs TBR), I’ve decided to cheer myself up a bit with a Sunday morning dedicated to all things Harry Potter.

I put my Harry Potter t-shirt, made myself a cup of tea in a Harry Potter mug, put the first movie on TV and sat down to write the Harry Potter book tag. This Sunday is starting magically!

Big thank you to my dear friend Jenna from Bookmark Your Thoughts, who thoughtfully nominated me to do this book tag! I feel like all of you already know and love Jenna’s blog (and her amazing personality), but if you, for some reason, are not familiar with her, please make sure to follow this link and befriend one of the kindest and nicest people in the bookish blogosphere!

10 – If you were on the Quidditch team, what position would you play?
11 – Were you happy with the ending?
12 – How much does Harry Potter mean to you?

The answers will contain spoilers for all 7 books, so if you haven’t read the Harry Potter series yet, I’d advise you to NOT read this post! You’ve been warned!

1 – Favourite book.

«Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban», the third book in this epic series, is by far my favourite book of all. But probably not for the reasons you think! The only element that made me re-read this book more than all others is the time turner that Hermione used to get to more classes in her third year in Hogwarts. I loved the fact that she (1) couldn’t decide what classes to attend so she chose all of them and (2) that she pushed herself so hard to apply to her studies. I always strived to be like her (an even nerdier nerd than I already was at school!) 😀

2 – Favourite movie.

«Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone»- nothing can compare with the first time I watched the Harry Potter movie. It was actually before I started reading the books, so the first movie will always have a dedicated place in my heart. Besides, I think that (1) the first movie Dumbledore is the only true Dumbledore, (2) it still possessed this magical and whimsical feeling of Hogwarts that the later movie moved away from, (3) I loved getting to know all the characters for the first time and (4) the friendship was one of the main elements of the story.

3 – Least favourite book

You’d think this would be a tough one to choose, but actually, I’ve always detested the 4th book – «Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire». It eventually grew on me but at first I was startled by (1) how grown up the book was. Of course, our main characters were growing up and story needed to grow up with them, but I wasn’t ready for the darker, somberer feeling of the book, (2) the hints of romance were introduced which took away a bit from the friendship I cherished so much, and (3) the book didn’t begin with the traveling to Hogwarts on the Hogwarts Express!!! I was beyond mad about that.

4 – Part of the books / movies that made you cry

The only part I vividly remember was the death of Dumbledore. I never expected it to come. I thought Dumbledore would live forever and ever, always there to support Harry, always there to support his students and Hogwarts. Oh my! I sobbed in my pillow after that scene.

The book scene was very emotional, but the movie wasn’t able to translate that moment the way I imagined it in my head.

5 – Favourite character

A very obvious one – Hermione Granger. I admired her and wanted to be her every time I picked up a book.

Many people mention Luna or Neville, but for me, they always came on the 2nd, 3rd plan after the trio – Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

6 – What would your Patronus be?

I consulted my “Wizarding Passport” on Pottermore (very fancy!) and my Patronus is a Siberian Cat:

7 – If you could have the Resurrection Stone, the Invisibility Cloak, or the Elder Wand, which one would you choose?

I’m not attracted to any of these items, to be honest. So let’s go with the one that would bring less harm and disarray to the world – The Invisibility Cloak.

8 – What house would you be in?

Once again, according to my Wizarding Passport, I’m a proud (and brave *cough*) Gryffindor!

9 – If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?

Emma Watson. From what we can see about her, I think she is an outstanding young woman and we would have a lot to chat about. She is actually starring in the new adaptation of «Little Women» that is coming out in December this year! I’m very excited to watch the movie.

10 – If you were on the Quidditch team, what position would you play?

So… I took this quiz that I found online and apparently I’d be in the Audience. 😀 Actually, I don’t see myself playing quidditch, but I love to cheer! Ahah

11 – Were you happy with the ending?

I wish the story would never end! But at the same time, all good stories need to have an ending and I was alright with how things wrapped up in the Harry Potter series. Just finishing the series already brings that satisfaction of accomplishing something, so overall I really liked it (even though I will always want more from the Harry Potter world!)

12 – How much does Harry Potter mean to you?

A 15-year-old me would say – IT MEANS EVERYTHING! But as I grow older and read many amazing books every year, I don’t believe anymore that Harry Potter was the one and only true masterpiece I’ve had a chance to read. However, the Harry Potter series marked my teen years and I will never forget how quickly I devoured the books, reading through the night, and going to school with just a few hours of sleep. How desperately I waited for the next installment. How many times I re-read the books.

  1. Oh my gosh, you getting ready to do this tag is too cute. And you aren’t the only one … I have 3 books left that I KNOW I’m not getting to … it really sucks, but this month ended up being stupid busy for me and I was sick for a bit … so I fell behind. BUT I tried … and I think I’ll be better prepared for next year. I really shouldn’t have participated in TWO read-a-thons back to back ha-ha!

I totally relate with Hermione in the third book … I would’ve done the same thing if given the opportunity ha-ha!

I feel bad because I don’t HATE the new Dumbledore from films 3 to 7 … but he isn’t … the same. The original actor FELT like Dumbledore … he was humble and calm. The new one was too loud and in your face … he still was good, but not as good.

I think the 4th book seems to be a lot of people’s least favourite whereas it was my favourite ha-ha!!

You gotta love Hermione. She was definitely up there for me as well.

I’ve done the test different times and I always flip between Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. I’ve gotten Ravenclaw once actually ha-ha!

    Loved all your answers, darlin’!

    1. 100% agree with you, the old Dumbledore was exactly how I always pictured him to be. The newer Dumbledore wasn’t bad, just not the same.

I think we can do so much better next year. The things I will probably change is (1) come up with various books for each prompt, so if I don’t feel like reading one of them I will always have more options and (2) get some shorter books / graphic novels.

      1. I feel you. I think this was a good tester year. It’s nice to see what to expect and also to try and not have TOO many things going on during this time. I’m definitely going to mix shorter and longer books next time. WE CAN DO IT! I’m still super excited for it next year ha-ha!

  2. I remember reading about Dumbledore’s message and IMMEDIATELY sending my friend a message about how devastated I was & how angry I was at Snape (I was *so* ready to believe he was a villain hahaha 😂) This tag is amazing & honestly gives me such nostalgia for the series!!

  3. I watched all the movies as soon as they came out but I only finished the book series this year so I can def appreciate some things more. For instance I loved how dark/more adult GoF was, though I’ve always hated that in the movie! And I’ve just come to appreciate the other stories more as well after reading the booka because everything finally makes sense! I’m def going to do this tag soon!

    1. Yes!!! Looking forward to your answers 🙂
The GoF movie was the darkest, especially comparing to the first three movies which were so full of Hogwarts magic. I think they changed producer or director after the third film, hence why it had a different feel to it (I might be wrong 😀 )

  4. I love how you prepared for this tag! That is absolutely the best! 💞
I’m in agreement with you, the third book is my favourite too, but that’s just because it was the first book I read in the series (I didn’t realize it was a series! 😛 )

      1. Ha! I think my parents bought it for me during the summer and we had no idea, it wasn’t until later I got to school and realized there were more books… and that I had started at 3.
It’s just like A Series of Unfortunate Events… I started with book 6 😂 to this day that is still my favourite!

  5. Gasp! The fourth book is my fav and for the reasons you didn’t like it 😮 I liked the mature and darker tone but didn’t like the romance developing between H & R either. Azkaban used to be one of my least liked ones and then it was Order of the Phoenix and now it’s probably Deathly Hallows.

  6. There’s a Harry Potter book tag!!?
How have I never seen this before!
I love your answers t all of these, but I have to agree with you on Hermione Granger, I would love to meet her but I think we would be too similar to get along lol
    – Emma 🙂

    1. Haha, I didn’t know about it either until Jenna tagged me. 😀
I used to constantly wish I’d end up in Hogwarts as Hermione, I really admired how hardworking she was, how “nerdy” and stubborn, but also very kind, friendly and helpful ❤

  7. This was lovely! We have some things in common 😀 My favourite character is also Hermione and if I could meet anyone from the cast, it’d be Emma too haha Or Tom!!
As for the house, I’m a Slytherin (Pottermore sorted me into Ravenclaw but it’s not really my thing, and I got Slytherin when I took a quiz with ALL the questions). Your Patronus is adorable! Mine is a West Highland Terrier ^^
I don’t think I’d be fit to play Quidditch either, I’m afraid of heights haha
Surprisingly, I remember my favourite book being The Goblet of Fire. I absolutely adored the Ball and the Challenge!
