Small Spaces (Small Spaces #1) by Katherine Arden | “At nightfall they’ll come for the rest of you.”

I became a big fan of Katherine Arden’s work after falling in love with the Winternight Trilogy, especially with the first installment «The Bear and the Nightingale». She released her first middle-grade book – «Small Spaces» in 2018 and I’ve been trying to get my hands on it ever since. 

What I didn’t know going into this book, but was pleasantly surprised by, was that this is going to be a four-book series! With each book representing one season. «Small Spaces» focuses on autumn, it’s set in October and is filled with scarecrows. I assure you, you won’t look the same at scarecrows after reading this.

5 Reasons why you need to read the «Winternight Trilogy» by Katherine Arden!

I’m starting a new type of posts of my blogs! [and I’m very excited to finally share this first one with all of you!] I always struggled to write reviews for sequels – not many people are interested in reading a review for a 2nd, 3rd or 10th book in the series when they haven’t even started the series yet or aren’t caught up to the point where they can freely read the review and not being afraid of spoilers. 

Besides, how much information is enough to convey my thoughts and not spoil the previous books?

If you’d have asked me 2-3 years ago who was my absolute favorite author I’d buy any books from, I’d say Cassandra Clare or Sarah J. Maas. However, my reading tastes changed a lot during the last two years and in 2019, both of these authors were featured in my post: “Authors I’m Giving Up On”.

Most Anticipated Releases | January 2019

This year is going to have some of the most anticipated books on my list. To say that I’m excited would be an understatement. Just for the month of January, I managed to compile a list of 12 books that I’m looking forward to.

The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden | Lyrical writing and breathtaking events – Vasya’s free spirit will never be tamed!

This year has started very strong. I already added two books to my Favourites 2018 shelf on GoodReads and hope that more and more books will continue to surprise me!

The first installment – «The Bear and the Nightingale» with gorgeous cover (both US and UK editions) was hands down one of the best books I read in 2017. I’ll even dare to say that it might be one of the best books I’ve ever read! So if you have not heard about it, or haven’t picked it up yet (for whatever reason) check my review here to find out all the good things about Katherine Arden’s writing.

Authors I discovered this year| And other honorable mentions!

This year has been amazing so far in terms of new genres, new releases and new-to-me authors. There were quite a lot of them that I would like to read more from, considering that their books made it to my 2017 favourites list that I will be sharing with all of you closer to the end of this year.

Surprisingly, almost all of them write General Fiction novels and it’s not a genre I pick up often, but when I do, it usually turns out to be a great experience. Maybe I should dedicate more of my reading time to Adult Fiction? Growing up is a very complicated process, especially when your reading tastes grows with you.
