TV adaptations I want to watch before the end of the year!

Look at me joining on two Top Ten Tuesday memes in a row! This week we are actually supposed to be talking about Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies, but since me and my BF are currently looking for a new TV show to watch, I thought I’d take this opportunity to explore the TV world and see if I can find TV shows that appeal to me to watch this year.

Since we finished watching the Walking Dead (there is still one episode left but I don’t know when it will be released *emoji*), I’ve been really struggling to find something captivating enough to watch. We tried «Expanse» and it’s kinda “meh”, in my opinion. Then we tried «The Outsider» and once again it wasn’t that great. We are still watching «The 100», the last two episodes will be coming out this month, but that’s pretty much it.

If you know some great (preferably dystopian) shows, please leave your recommendations in the comments below!

Once again I couldn’t find 10 TV shows, so I’ll be sharing the 5 I found instead!

5 TV ADAPTATIONS I WANT TO WATCH

Normal People by Sally Rooney

This TV adaptation will be either hit or miss. I’m usually not a fan of drama and much prefer to watch a Sci-Fi, dystopian, or Fantasy TV show, but I’m very curious to see the messed up relationship between Connell and Marianne on screen. What does that say about me? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

I’m definitely going to read the book first! Especially since it’s part of my “15 before 30” challenge. A year or so ago, we tried watching this series and I’m sure I fell asleep halfway through the first episode and we never continued with it.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

Celeste Ng’s book «Little Fires Everywhere» wasn’t my absolute favorite, and when I heard that it was going to be adapted into a TV show, I wasn’t really interested. BUT! While I was compiling this list, I stumbled upon the trailer and OMG! Reese Witherspoon is amazing and just from watching the trailer, I was captivated!

Outlander by Diana Gabadon

It feels like everyone read and watched «Outlander» except me! I will try to see if my bf wants to start another long series and maybe we will like this one? Who knows!

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

I haven’t read the book and I’m still not quite sure about the TV show. It looks interesting, but if you have any other suggestions I’ll be happy to switch it out. Lol

On a different note, there are two adaptations I’m very much looking forward to that hopefully will come out this year – «The Witcher» season 2 and «Dune»!

  1. Omg yes to all of these, Alex! I’ve been wanting to watch all of these for a while now, especially the older shows that came out but I also put them “on hold” coz I planned to read the books first. Obviously that has yet to happen 😂 All of these adaptations have had awesome reviews though so I do plan to get to them eventually! Hope you enjoy them when you get to them 🙂

  2. Oh I like your twist this week! I’ve watched most of these. I actually liked the Normal People adaptation better than the book. It was beautifully shot with a great soundtrack, too. The Handmaid’s Tale is amazing. Especially if you’re a fan of dystopian. I’m halfway through Little Fires, but my husband was not very interested in that one. He didn’t get very far in Outlander either. But I love Outlander. I hope you enjoy these when you get to them! ❤

  3. I started watching The Handmaid’s Tale (I think I got to the end of season two). I haven’t read the book, but I really enjoy the TV series. Although, the main character kind of started to get on my nerves in the series. This month I read the graphic novel of the Handmaid’s Tale and kind of really want to read the actual book some time. I also started to watch Outlander, but only the first couple episodes. I really want to read the book first, so I think that’s why I didn’t invest anymore time into the TV series.

  4. I definitely recommend both The Handmaid’s Tale and Outlander, they’re both amazing shows!! I read The Handmaid’s Tale, then watched the show, then read The Testaments, which I thought was a good path, because the show focuses on other things and adds details that the first book doesn’t have and made it easier for me to connect the dots in The Testaments. However, if you don’t wanna be “spoiled” (I didn’t consider it a spoiler, because it’s kinda suspicious and obvious, but nevertheless it wasn’t actually stated in the first book, only on the show, so for those who have only read the books, it won’t be as obvious), I’d recommend reading both books and then watch the show. I have never read Outlander, and I don’t think I want too, to be honest, despite ABSOLUTELY LOVING the show and it being one my favourite shows – it’s just that the books are BIG and this is something I believe I enjoy more watching rather than reading. I have seen the cover of Little Fires Everywhere around the blogosphere, but I had no idea what it was about, and I didn’t know there was an adaptation, but the trailer seems interesting and for Reese, I’ll definitely watch it!! ❤ Lately I've been watching How To Get Away With Murder, The Legend of Korra (since I've only watched ATLA for the first time this year), The 100 (but honestly I don't enjoy it that much anymore, I'm just watching because it's almost done) and I wanna re-watch She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (that show has my whole heart and soul), and I need to watch Dark because I've promised one of my friends I'd do it hahaha

    1. Thank you for these suggestions, hun! I definitely want to read The Handmaid’s Tale first, and now that you mentioned, I will probably read the Testaments as well, before we start watching the show. And I feel the same about reading the Outlander books. Don’t think I’ll ever get to them, much rather watch the show D:
We are finishing the 100 too. But same.. it’s not as good as it used to be, but since we are so closed to the end I need to know how it all wraps up. Lol
