June 2020 Wrap Up | The month I learned how to enjoy little things!

Looking back on June TBR that I created at the end of May, my motivation to read was definitely very high. Sadly, for the first week of June, I barely read anything. I kept picking up books and reading a couple of pages from each of them nothing really capturing my attention. I kept making to-do lists of all the things I wanted to accomplish, but couldn’t focus on a single one of them. My head was elsewhere and all I could do was watch something to get myself distracted.

Luckily, after the first week, I was able to get back into my routine, write some blog posts I really loved, catch up on blog hopping, and finally finish some books! 😀

THINGS THAT MADE ME HAPPY IN JUNE

1 – Katy Keene, the new CW series that is a spin-off from Riverdale! I watched all 13 episodes of the first season in just 3 evenings. I was really into it! 😀 The main character, Katy Keene, is played by Lucy Hale, you might know and love her as Aria from the Pretty Little Liars, and I have to be honest the reason why I started and kept watching it was purely because of Lucy Hale. Overall, it was a great light distraction!

The series reminded me (very slightly!) of the Sex and the City, because of the voice-overs and the main group of 4 friends.  I kinda want to re-watch the Sex and the City now, but afraid that if I commit to it my reading will suffer even more.

2 – BF’s birthday ❤ I tend to be very indifferent towards my birthdays but I love selecting gifts for others (even though it can be very difficult sometimes!). For his birthday, I decided to go with a custom made poster from Quadro&Meio as his 2nd gift and I’m in love with the starry sky they created! It’s a great addition to the room, and I’m sure we’ll be able to find it a proper spot when we move in together.

3 – Adichie’s talks. I’d like to say that I finally read one of her books, but no. That didn’t happen in June either. I did buy another one of her books though, so now I don’t only have «Americanah» but also «Purple Hibiscus» to go through… I love her TED talks and just anything I can find on the internet. She is such an inspiration ❤

4 – Evening walks. Even though restaurants and malls are finally open, we still try to avoid highly populated places. So evening walks (just the two of us) have been an amazing way to decompress after a long day at work, get some fresh air, chat and just spend some time together.

5 – Being productive and doing a big chunk of studying. This felt incredible! And most importantly I’m now done with all of my note-taking and already advanced to the next phase of my study routine. 😀 I also have been watching quite a lot of “study with me” and “study routines” videos on YouTube, which is the opposite of productive, but at least they help me stay motivated to keep going.

6 – Little Mix’s latest album LM5 ❤ I’ve always followed Little Mix, ever since the X-Factor. But the last couple of months I’ve really gotten into their music and I can’t stop from listening to many of their songs on repeat! Right now I’m particularly obsessed over “The Cure”.

7 – Reading «Beach Read» by Emily Henry. Dedra mentioned in her review that she liked the book so much she wished she could forget it just to read it all over again and experience the same emotions, and I completely agree! What a fantastic book! It would have been perfect to take on vacation as well – sunny days, beach, the sound of waves… and this book. I can even picture it!

8 – Watching Kate Cavanagh’s YouTube videos. She is part of the “authortube” and I love her personality. Mostly my YouTube is full of Booktube content, but I found Katy’s channel in the beginning of this year through one of her “Writing Experiments” videos and I was hooked! She always fuels my productivity levels and after watching her videos I want to strive for more, do more, and achieve more things.

MONTHLY READING STATS

Reading in June was a true challenge. My mood was all over the place and for the first half of the month, I barely read anything. I did watch tons of YouTube videos as you can see from my favorites 😀

Considering that most of my reading happened after the 11th of June, I’me very pleased with the number of ARCs I was able to go through. I read a total of 10 books, 9 of them were ARCs! This is probably the highest number of ARCs I read in one month ever. Lol

Overall, June was a great month: (1) I added 2 books to my “2020 favorites” shelf on Goodreads – «Beach Read» and «The Unadoptables», (2) I got my NetGalley rating back at 91%, and (3) I had a lot of fun reading so many new and upcoming releases.

    1. Thank you so much, hun ❤ It makes me so happy to see people love the graphs, they definitely take the longest to make 😀 But I love playing with photoshop. And good luck with your NG ratio, I think it's so satisfying to try keeping it above 80% 😀

  1. The Katy Keene serie looks very entertaining! And great job for doing evening walks. I keep wanting to do that too, but at the end of the day i just sit on my couch and find it hard to get off it again 😅
Congrats on reading so many books in just half a month basically. Hope July is a good month! 🙂

    1. Thank you, hun ❤ I LOVE Katy Keene, although it's not the usual type of series I tend to enjoy, I'm a much more "action" lover. But I guess at that point I just needed something sweet and funny, and I love Lucy Hale, she was my favorite in Pretty Little Liars as well. 🙂

  2. I’ve heard a little about Katy Keene, but have been hesitant since I’ve found CW shows to be a bit cringe these days (poor Riverdale!). I’ll definitely have to watch the pilot now and give it a chance! Maybe it’ll be a new favorite (: 13 episodes is nice too, not too long like previous CW shows!

I also have Beach Read sitting on my shelf, I keep meaning to pick it up but something else always jumps out first! After reading how much you loved it, I’ll definitely have to bump it to the top (:

Hope you have just as great of a reading month in July! 🥰

  3. Lol that’s my experience with Adichie so far too. I keep listening to her talks and any other videos I can find of her and following her on IG because I LOVE her fashion and buying her books but have yet to read them. I need to read Americanah before this year ends though.

  4. It’s so curious you’ve shared “the danger of a single story” ted talk because I’ve also watched it quite recently (late may, I believe) in English class, exactly because we were discussing the dangers of only having one side of the same story … I also loved to watch it !!! 🙂

  5. I love picking gifts out for people too. That’s nice that you got your BF a custom made poster. I really need to start taking more evening walks once I get back home. Places are opened up again where I live too, but I don’t want to go to places still, especially because in Florida it’s getting REALLY bad with virus cases again.

Yay for being productive! 🙂 I just got Beach Read from my library yesterday and I am really hoping I can read it before it has to go back. Amazing job reading so many books (and ARCs). I really need to catch up on ARCs as soon as possible. I had a really bad reading month in June though, sigh. I hope you have an even more amazing July!

    1. Yeah… I’ve been really craving some sushi lately, but I’m still not comfortable going to restaurants or cafes, especially since they always seem so packed. But evening walks are a perfect alternative for getting out of the house, see everyone else is up to 😀

Hope you enjoy Beach Read!!! I loved it so much, one of the best romcoms! ❤

    1. Ahah, yes! We’ve been planning a “bigger” vacation for years now and thought that it would happen this year, but nope 😀 So hopefully next year, I’ll be all done with internships and COVID will be under control, and we will be able to go somewhere far away and exotic 🙂
