The Stuck at Home Book Tag | Currently reading & future TBR!

Hello! I hope you all are doing well! Are you almost done with college / school assignments? Are you looking forward to the summer vacation?

It’s finally proper summer in Portugal. We went from wearing light jackets and trousers to wearing bikinis in just a day, and I’m still trying to adjust to that sudden change of weather. The good thing is that we are actually allowed to go to the beach [as long as we respect the established distancing rules]. My plan for this weekend is to find the remotest place, bring my book and stay there for as long as possible.

Now that I’m no longer “stuck at home”, it’s only appropriate to do this book tag 😀 Thank you, Sofi for tagging me, I really loved reading your answers to these questions! ❤

1 – What are you currently reading?

At the moment, I’m in the middle of three books:

  • «The Toll» by Neal Shusterman, the final book in the Arc of a Scythe trilogy. I’m procrastinating on it a little bit. I don’t know why, but I find it so difficult to finish book series, and picking up the final book usually feels like a chore. But I’m definitely finishing it this month!
  • «Wonderscape» by Jennifer Bell. I’m only 60ish pages in, but oh wow! I love it already. Middle grade + video games + time-traveling + adventures = the recipe for a new favorite book!
  • «Americanah» by Ch. N. Adichie. Yes, I’m still reading this book, although I put it “on hold” at the end of January and have been meaning to pick it back up ever since. My current excuse for not reading it is that I’m waiting for the physical copy to arrive. I ordered it last week as a part of my new reading challenge.

2 – What’s your favorite can’t-leave-the-house activity?

The favorite of all favorites is definitely reading [and eating]. I’ve also been studying a lot and I do enjoy it 😀 I attempted some yoga a few weeks ago, and while I kinda liked it, I didn’t enjoy it enough to continue.

3 – A book you’ve been meaning to read forever?

All of the books on my shelves? 😀 I’ve been meaning to read «Elantris» by Brandon Sanderson for 4 months now. It’s in my TBR every single month and I still haven’t read it, even though I started it once and really loved the first couple of pages *facepalm* It will happen, guys! [I just don’t know when…]

4 – An intimidating book on your TBR?

I want to say «A Little Life» by Hanya Yanagihara, but I don’t actually feel intimidated by it, even though it’s a brick and I will probably cry my eyes out.
The one that REALLY scares me is «The Book of Dust» by Phillip Pullman. Not only it’s huge, but I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the His Dark Materials trilogy, so I’m worried that I won’t like this one either.

5 – Top 3 priority books on your TBR?

The many ARCs that are pending. I went on NetGalley request spree and I was so lucky to get most of the requests approved, now I don’t even know where to begin… lol

The books I’m planning to finish / read this month are:

  • My current reads, of course. [Except «Americanah». We all know it won’t happen];
  • «The Obsidian Tower» by Melissa Caruso, the first book in the new YA fantasy series called “Rooks and Ruin” that is coming out in the beginning of June; and
  • «The City of Brass» by S.A. Chakraborty, I really need to dedicate more time to reading. The live show of RRR book club is also in the beginning of June and I haven’t even started it!

6 – Recommend a short book.

This year I read some incredible short books:

  • «The Test» by Sylvain Neuvel is a mind-blowing Sci-Fi that reads just in a couple of hours, which will definitely leave you speechless!
  • «Elevation» by Stephen King is another amazing short story. I read it in early January and it’s still one of the best books of this year.
  • «Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions» by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. This one is a must-read for everyone!

7 – Recommend a long book.

I will cheat a bit and recommend a whole series instead. This year I started reading «The Keeper of the Lost Cities» middle-grade series by Shannon Messenger and I’m in love! The books are definitely chunky. The fourth one that I read this month is over 600 pages, but they read very quickly and I love all the characters and adventures.

8 – Something you’d love to do while stuck at home.

Even during quarantine I still struggled to find time for everything I needed to do. I guess I’d love to be able to take time off and not feel guilty about it? 😀

9 – What do you plan on reading next?

My June and July TBRs are already set. I have something special prepared for July and I’m VERY excited about it. For June I will mostly be reading ARCs that I requested and was approved for this month, I’ll be sharing the full list next week.

Are you still “stuck-at-home” or the restrictions were lifted in your counties? I’d love to know what is happening in the other parts of the world! I won’t be tagging anyone this time, but if you can leave your answers to these questions in the comments below!

What books are you currently reading? What books will you read next? Let’s chat! 🙂

  1. My gym was offering free yoga classes online so I did it for a few weeks & I enjoyed it but I don’t think it’s really my cup of tea? I’d so much rather punch a bag or do some cardio 😂 I know what you mean about struggling to find time to do stuff during quarantine! People are taking up cooking, painting, crocheting…and all I’ve done is play a bajillion hours of Sims. I mean granted, I AM still doing Zoom University but still – I feel like I’ve achieved nothing 😂

      1. I love the Les Mills classes! I used to do Body Pump & also Body Attack & Step as well 😍 I think it was a combo of the music & really energetic instructors – I always felt like I was invincible by the end of the class 😂

  2. This is a super fun tag. I like these questions. I really need to read The Test. I’ve heard interesting things. As for Elevation, I’ve never read a Stephen King book (maybe we read excerpts of Carrie in high school, I don’t remember). I’ll have to take you up on your recommendation.

    1. The Test was mind-blowing! Highly recommend 🙂 And Elevation is really short and not scary at all. It’s a nice way to see King’s writing style without the scary bits. Lol
I remember trying to read Carrie at school. I think I was too young for it though, I had to stop very early into the book because I was so scared. D:

  3. Things are starting to open up here in Texas, but since we’re not really sure we can trust the people in charge, we’re still not venturing out yet. 😉 We’ll give it a few weeks to see if things rebound. The beach sounds like heaven! I hope you get to find the perfect reading spot. ❤

  4. That’s great that you can now go out to the beach! 😀
We’re moving in stages, last week was stage one where some shops, if they have a store front (not in a mall, essentially) can open but still keeping the 6 feet distance. Stage 2 I believe is in the process and parks have begun to open, but one park went crazy and forgot a pandemic was happening, ugh. Only time will tell if things are going to continue to open. I’m truly just waiting for the library to offer curb side pick up… I got an email saying that city’s library isn’t ready just yet.
I didn’t know that Samantha Shannon had a middle grade series! 😯 I may need to look into that! I just finished the third book in the Bone Season series last night! SO good! 😀

  5. I’ve been reading The Toll for about two months now and STILL can’t finish it. The final in the trilogy is a major dud for me… which makes me want to cry. The first and second were brilliant! I hope you enjoy it more than me! As for my stuck at home hobbies.. I’ve been the flakiest hobbyist ever. I pick things up for about a day and a half and then leave things unfinished to try something else 😛 So far I’ve learnt a little about a lot and achieved almost nothing but it’s been fun! Glad you’re getting summer weather! We’re pretty cold down here in Aussie right now! Jen

    1. I started the Toll a few weeks ago and still only 20 or 30 pages in 😀 I loved the way Thunderhead ended and am interested in reading The Toll, but there are always other books that need to be prioritize… Really hope to finish it next week *fingers crossed*

  6. What a fun tag! So many good questions. I might just do this one without being tagged haha. Spending a long day reading at a quiet spot on the beach sounds amazing! Wonderscape looks and sounds great. I really need to try some middle grade sometime soon. I totally agree with The Test and Dear Ijeawele for the short book picks. 🙂

  8. I’m also surprised at the change in weather, and it’s still May so it shouldn’t be /this/ hot (I hate our Summers because I’m always a sweaty mess xD). People are already going to the beach in the north as well, and most of them don’t seem to respect the distancing rule, which is annoying. I haven’t gone to the beach and I’m lowkey jealous of people who have pools at home! Lately, I’ve also only been studying, eating and reading. I attempted working out and also yoga, but that didn’t stick hahaha

    1. Ahaha, same! Summer is NOT my favorite season at all. Although the last couple of days the weather has been nice actually, not too hot and cool in the evening ❤ We've been going for a walk almost every day and it's been very nice.
I still need to make time for the beach… going to the beach always seems like a task for a full day and I just don't have that much time. Lol
