Following one of my New Year’s resolutions (i.e. read less study more), I planned to skip as many read-a-thons this year as I could, but I couldn’t make myself skip O.W.L.s Magical Readathon that takes place in April! O.W.L.s and Booktubeathon are the only two reading events I usually participate, and it felt wrong breaking the traditions.
To make my life a little bit easier, I decided to go through each career guide and pick one profession that requires fewer books. This resulted in me doing all the math so you wouldnโt have to! ๐ My career choice will also impact my “Spring TBR”, so I will be joining Top Ten Tuesday theme (partially) as well!

O.W.L.s Helpful Links:
Magical Readthon 2020 – Official Website where you can find all information you need to participate in O.W.L.s magical readathon, join fellow readers on social media, submit book recommendations and track your (and everyone else’s) progress:
- Wizarding Carreer Guide Book – there are a couple of new professions this year! The one I’m very excited about is Trader of Magic Tomes.
- O.W.L.s reading prompt 2020
THE O.W.L. MAGICAL READATHON MATHS:
Career | N.ยบ of Books (O.W.L.) | N.ยบ of Books (N.E.W.T.) |
---|---|---|
Aurologist | 3 | 4 |
Astronomer | 3 | 5 |
Herbologist | 3 | 6 |
Seer | 3 | 3 |
Journalist or Writer | 3 | 4 |
Culinary Sorcerer | 4 | 5 |
Broom maker | 4 | 7 |
Trader of Magical Thomes | 4 | 5 |
Mage of Visual Arts | 4 | 4 |
Quidditch Referee | 4 | 6 |
Graphic Designer | 4 | 6 |
Magizoologist | 4 | 7 |
Auror | 5 | 9 |
Ministry Worker | 5 | 7 to 12 |
Librarian | 5 | 7 |
Curse Breaker | 6 | 9 |
Healer | 6 | 10 |
Metal Charmer | 6 | 12 |
Spell maker | 7 | 13 |
Hogwarts Professor | 7 | 7 |
Mind Medic | 8 | 12 |
Alchemist | 12 | 17 |
As you can see from the chart above, the โeasiestโ careers in terms of the number of books required to pass are Aurologist, Seer and Journalist and Writer. Out of these two, Iโd say that the Journalist Career is the easiest one to follow because in both, O.W.L. and N.E.W.T., we get to pick one subject!
This year I decided to go pursue Journalist or Writer career, mostly because I won’t have much time in March to dedicate to reading.

I have three prompts to complete. For the History of Magic I’ll need to read a book featuring witches or wizards; for Muggle Studies a contemporary and then I get to pick one more subject (I’m currently leaning towards Potions because of the prompt to read a book with less than 150 pages).
Since I haven’t been reading that much this month, I want to see how the last two weeks go, what books I’ll be able to finish and then choose my TBR for O.W.L.’s. I will be sharing it in my April Goals post later this month! ๐
What career will you pursue this year? Out of new careers which one is your favorite?
Let me know in the comments below! And I hope that my O.W.L.’s math will be somewhat useful. ๐

The idea of NOT participating in OWLs was too horrible, so I had to come up with a way to participate while still saving some time for studying ๐ Very excited to see what career you’ll choose!

Oh!!! So … my bookstagram friend sent me this information on a thing on YouTube … it’s called Harry Potter ASMR — and I feel it’s totally appropriate for the OWLs!!

This is my first time doing OWLS (because I finally watched the announcement video on time to actually make a tbr) and I’m thinking I either follow Magizoologist (with extra dragon training) or I just try to read a book for every subject).
Yay you for making this really helpful list though, I couldn’t even read through the whole career doc! I was really overwhelmed tbh so I ended up just choosing a few from the titles and then reading those. (And kudos to whoever wrote all of that and put in the design work because it is stunning!)

Ahaha, Perfect!!! ๐ I think you can definitely do it! (read a book for every subject), especially now that we are all staying at home! And thank you so much. โค

You know… your post has made me consider actually doing this readathon this year. Every year I say ‘maybe next year’ but I’m honestly considering it this year! ๐

I thought I’d have part of the post put together already… and I still haven’t. I really hope I can today so that I can have it up this week coming up! ๐

I think you chose very smartly and I’m SO GLAD you’re going to participate, I hope you have a lot of fun! ๐ฅฐ I’ll also participate, but I still haven’t decided the career, I’m between 3 and I’m seeing which one is better for the books I want to read, but super excited! ๐๐๐ป
I hope you’re saved with everything that’s happening in the world now and I send you a lot of love and energy โจโค๏ธ

Thank you, hun! โค I will be working from home starting next week, which is not ideal but staying safe is the most important thing at the moment. I hope you're keeping safe and healthy as well! At least we (bookworms) have tons of books to read and would never get bored while staying at home! ๐ I even played some video games today, the first time in a very long time. Lol

Iโm doing something similar. Iโve chosen 2-3 careers, reading books and seeing which of those careers I qualify for. I am hoping I can get through at least 6 subjects this year.

I really appreciate you putting this together. I went for the Aurologist last year because I didn’t have enough for reading and I thought it was a cool career. I might go for Trader of Tomes this time or Mind Medic, if I really want to push myself.

Yaaas! I participated last year, I believe, and I had tons of fun, but I always forget to keep track of when these happen, so I’m skipping it. I’m a mess ๐ If I did, I’d be tempted to choose a ~super cool~ carreer, soooo ๐ I’m sure you’ll do very well! Have fun and good luck ๐

Ahaha ๐ I was thinking of choosing the easiest one, but now that my exams were postponed I have time to read more books. So I don’t even know what I should choose… Lol
