Books on my TBR I predict will be 5-star reads | Another reading challenge!

My February TBR (link) is already looking too long for me to add any books to it, but I’ve been meaning to participate in one of this “5-star prediction” challenges in a very long time, and couldn’t pass this opportunity! Hence why I’m making another list of books-to-read in the nearest future, and I hope that I will actually read these books soon!

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday (link) topic is Books on my TBR I predict will be 5-star reads, and because my TBR is so vast, and my time to read books is limited, I decided to pick 5 books from my physical TBR that I think I’ll absolutely love, that aren’t first books in the series, and challenge myself to read them during the next couple of months. Wish me luck!

The 5 books I chose are all from different genres and I’m excited to read them all!

FANTASY: The Winter of the Witch (Winternight Trilogy, #3) by Katherine Arden

I’m honestly embarrassed that I still haven’t read the final book in my favorite fantasy trilogy! It’s been almost a year since this book came out. I bought it in February / March last year, put it countless times on my nightstand to be the next book I pick up, and it’s still sitting in the tidy pile of “read asap” books next to my TV.

FICTION: City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

This was one of my Christmas gifts. My boyfriend really got out of his way to find the hardcover for me and I don’t want to seem ungrateful and let it sit on my TBR shelf for years. Besides, hearing all the praise for this book, I know that I will love it!

HISTORICAL FICTION: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Ruta Sepetys was one of my new favorite authors of 2019, and I immediately bought her other two books – «Between Shades of Gray» and «Salt to the Sea». She writes beautifully, and this book is only 340 pages long, I have no excuse to not pick it immediately!

SCI-FI: Recursion by Blake Crouch

Uhm… I know I will love anything Blake Crouch comes up with, but will I actually give it 5 stars? I don’t know…

His other book, «Dark Matter» was an astounding story, very unique and engaging, but I still didn’t feel like it deserved 5 stars. Maybe I’m more drawn to the subject of memories? We shall find out!

THRILLER: Lethal White (Cormoran Strike, #4) by Robert Galbraith

It seems like Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling) books are not very popular here or on YouTube. I saw only a couple of bloggers mention the Cormoran Strike books, but I actually really loved these crime novels!

The first one was the best, in my opinion, and the third left many things unanswered, so I’m excited to keep reading about Cormoran and Robin, and see them solve crimes while trying to also figure out the clues on my own.

This is not a long list, and there are many more unread books on my shelves that I’m sure I’ll love, but for now we will stick with these five! I’m planning to include them in my March TBR!

What books on your TBR you predict to be 5-star reads? Have you read any of the books on my list? What did you think of them?

    1. Yay! Have you read the Dark Matter as well? I gave it 4 stars, it was good but… there was something missing it in for me. So I hope that Recursion will be better.
And I have no doubts at all that I’ll love The Winter of the Witch. Katherine Arden creates the most amazing, atmospheric stories and I can’t wait to see how Vasya’s story ends.

  1. I’m really curious about The City of Girls because I’ve also heard amazing things, but it’s not the kind of thing I usually read so I’m feeling really hesitant… I’ll be eagerly awaiting your review, though!
Plus, Recursion is also something I really want to read, and I might read it if I get the chance, but Dark Matter also wasn’t a 5 star read for me and I doubt this one will be as well. I’m also really curious to read his Wayward Pines books since I watched a bit of the show.

    1. Then I hope to read it soon, so you don’t have to wait too long 😀 I need to pull it out from the shelves and place on my nightstand so I actually pick it up soon. Lol All the little tricks to read my physical TBR.

I’ve never seen Wayward Pines show, I didn’t even know there was a TV show :O Thank you! I’ll check it out tonight.

  2. I haven’t read any of the books on your list but I hope you love them! 🙂 It’s funny you being embarrassed to not have read the third book in the Winternight trilogy when I haven’t even read the first yeat [insert monkey covering eyes emoji here]. I hear that they are great though

  3. I gave Recursion four stars…but dark matter only two lol! Fingers crossed you’ll love all of these books Alex. I’ve been meaning to read City of Girls myself ever since it came out…it’s still silently staring at me from the bookcase…. 😂😂😂😂

  4. I thought about doing the TTT post for this week but chose not to, because I was scared I would put too much pressure on these books to be five stars and then find myself thinking they weren’t good enough because of that haha. I hope these will all be five star reads for you! I really hope to finally read Recursion this year.

    1. That’s a very good point. I like to think that all books I buy will be 5 stars but that doesn’t always happen. In fact there are certain books on my shelves now that I kinda lost interest in. 😦 Hopefully these will be good! Thank you ❤

  5. I absolutely loved Between Shades of Grey and I hope that you end up enjoying it as well 🙂 I’m looking forward to continuing on with the Winternight Trilogy because TBATN was a five-star for me (so I honestly don’t know why I haven’t continued with the series yet!) Lol hope you’re spot on about your predictions for all these books, Alex!

    1. Thank you! I really loved The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys, so I really hope that her other books will be just as incredible. And the last book in the Winternight Trilogy just HAS to be amazing 😀

  6. I LOVE these kinds of challenges, I think it keeps reading even more interesting and motivates you to read more 😍
Between Shades of Gray was amazing, such a hard-hitting story of survival and union, it’s heartbreaking but it’s also SO worth reading, it was almost a 5 stars for me, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. ❤️✨
I can’t wait to know what you think about it and about the other books!

PS: I’m dying to read a book by Blake Crouch soon, all his books sound incredible 😍

    1. Now I need to actually read these books. Lol
I purposefully decided to pick books from my physical TBR only, because there are too many unread books on them now and I need some motivation to focus on them instead of ARCs and new releases.

  7. Love these posts! Sometimes I try to do this, but then I end up thinking I’d give them all five-stars! After all, I have most of my books because I think I’m going to love them..!
