Science Fiction and Dystopian Books with numbers in the titles | Another Fall TBR!

I love TTT (Top Ten Tuesday) topics that I can put my own twist to. This week we are supposed to talk about Books with numbers in the titles, and I had a hard time deciding WHAT books exactly I wanted to talk about. There are just too many possibilities!

After starting to compile my lists for Books I read that had numbers in the titles and All Agatha Christie books with numbers in the titles. I decided to settle on a list of Dystopian and Sci-Fi books, creating another fall TBR! (this Autumn will be known as TBR Autumn).

Just a few days ago I started reading a dystopian novel «Cell»* by Stephen King that reminded me why I used to love science fiction and apocalyptic books so much!

*This book is GREAT, btw! I’m more than half way through and have a trouble putting it down.

SCI-FI AND DYSTOPIAN BOOKS WITH NUMBERS IN THE TITLES:

the first fifteen lives of harry august by claire north

Some stories cannot be told in just one lifetime. Harry August is on his deathbed. Again. No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes. Until now. As Harry nears the end of his eleventh life, a little girl appears at his bedside… more

This is the only book from this list that I actually own but still haven’t read it (the story of every book I buy…) In the beginning of this year, I was in a mood for stories about people re-living their lives that I purchased this books and also «Life After Life» by Kate Atkinson (which I also haven’t read…)

station eleven by emily st. john mandel

One snowy night a famous Hollywood actor slumps over and dies onstage during a production of King Lear. Hours later, the world as we know it begins to dissolve. Moving back and forth in time—from the actor’s early days as a film star to fifteen years in the future, when a theater troupe known as the Traveling Symphony roams the wasteland of what remains… more

This one was featured in one of Emily Fox videos at BooksWithEmilyFox. I adore her channel! Her taste in books is very similar to mine, so when she mentioned «Station Eleven», of course I had to add it to my TBR right away!

the 100 by kass morgan

Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth’s radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents—considered expendable by society—are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life…or it could be a suicide mission… more

«The 100» is one of my (and my bf’s) favorite TV shows! We binged the last episodes that came out this year and now there is nothing more to watch… I heard that the TV show is very different from the books, so I can read the book as I’m waiting for the further episodes to come out.

lifel1k3 by jay cristoff

Eve isn’t looking for secrets—she’s too busy looking over her shoulder. The robot gladiator she’s just spent six months building has been reduced to a smoking wreck, and the only thing keeping her Grandpa from the grave was the fistful of credits she just lost to the bookies. To top it off, she’s discovered she can destroy electronics with the power of her mind, and the puritanical Brotherhood are building a coffin her size. If she’s ever had a worse day, Eve can’t remember it… more

Do I even need to say anything? «Illuminae» is one of the best YA sci-fi, «Obsidio» and «Gemina» were just as great. There is no reason for me to NOT read «LIFEL1K3» as well.

around the world in eighty days by jules verne

One ill-fated evening at the Reform Club, Phileas Fogg rashly bets his companions £20,000 that he can travel around the entire globe in just eighty days – and he is determined not to lose. Breaking the well-establised routine of his daily life, the reserved Englishman immediately sets off for Dover, accompanied by his hot-blooded French manservant Passepartout… more

I love Jules Verne. His books are so adventurous. They remind me of some middle grade books that I used to read when I was little. I actually read this before, but I don’t remember it as well as his other novels – perfect reason to re-read!

1984 by george orwell

The year 1984 has come and gone, but George Orwell’s prophetic, nightmarish vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is timelier than ever. 1984 is still the great modern classic of “negative utopia”—a startlingly original and haunting novel that creates an imaginary world that is completely convincing, from the first sentence to the last four words… more

For some reason, «1984» and «Fahrenheit 451» weren’t in our school literature program. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We’ve read War and Peace, and Crime and Punishment, and tons of other amazing classics, but not these. And since they are quite short I would love to read them still this year.

Fahrenheit 451 by ray bradbury

Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.”… more

the dark tower series by stephen king

In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces readers to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland pursues The Man in Black, encounters an alluring woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the Kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter… more

This is the second book in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, but since it fits into this prompt that’s what I’m using here. As I mentioned earlier, I’m currently reading my first Stephen King book – «The Cell», and I’m loving it. This means I will definitely read more Stephen King books in the future. The Dark Tower series are a must read!

  2. I DNF The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August because I’m a mood reader. Definitely want to go back to it once I’m ready to read about a character living multiple lives, though.

    My TTT.

    1. I usually am pretty good at knowing what I want to read at specific times, but sometimes I also feel like I’m not enjoying the book and it’s solely because I feel like reading something else. I hope you’ll love it (and I hope I’ll love it too 😀 ) when you pick it up again!

  3. Omg I love the 100!!! I’m currently half way through season 6 (I mean I started watching season 6 last night so I’m binging HARD!!) and I am OBSESSED!!!!!!! I definitely want to read the books too because even though they’re different to the show they’ll still give me my 100 fix while waiting on season 7

    1. We could buddy-read it at some point *wink* *wink* (Fahrenheit 451 that is 🙂 ). And the 100, everyone says that the show is very different from the books, and I’ve never actually read anything from this author, maybe I’ll end up loving it, who knows! 😀

  4. 1984 wasn’t part of my school readings either, Animal Farm was but I feel like I would have liked 1984 more just based on the premise.
Yay! I hope you enjoy the Dark Tower series. It’s a really weird bizarre trip of a series, but it was a lot of fun to read. I’m taking it you haven’t read The Stand? The main character from the Stand plays a major role in the series. I haven’t read the Stand, but I still very much enjoyed the series, I just didn’t get the full experience. After I read the Shining I’ll be reading the Stand and I can’t wait to re-read the Dark Tower books to completely understand it all!

  5. Love the twist you did on the theme! Station Eleven is on my shelf, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I’ve heard only great things. Great list! Here’s my TTT.

  6. I also really want to read Fahrenheit 451 & 1984 – I can’t believe they weren’t on my reading list either, considering I studied English Lit! I’ve even got a special edition of 1984 to entice me into reading it 😂

Loved your twist on this TTT! 😉

  7. Love this list that serves as a TBR for you! 1984 and Fahrenheit are some of my faves and I hope you’ll have a blast with them when you get around to reading them. I look forward to trying out the others on your list someday too. I still need to pick up book 2 of King’s Dark Tower series as well. I’ll have to organize myself for 2020! So many books, so little time!

    1. Thank you! That’s so true! if just we didn’t need to sleep at night… we could read so many books! 😀
2020 will be the busiest year, but hopefully, I’ll have some time for reading as well… My exams should take place in the first half of the year, so that will be fun. But once I’m done with studying, I can enjoy my books without worrying about anything else.
