The Book Addiction Tag | Where I discover that I’m a book hoarder!

I was tagged by the fellow blogger and my friend, Meghan from Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews! She has a super power to write tons of reviews in a very short period of time (that I’m a little bit jealous of). Thank you for the tag! 🙂

Questions:

1 – What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?
2 – How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?
3 – Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?
4 – How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?
5 – How much time per day do you actually spend reading?
6 – Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?
7 – How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?
8 – Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?
9 – What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?
10 – Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds (i.e searching bookshops, online digging, etc.)?
11 – A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?
12 – What are 3 of your main book goals for 2019?
13 – Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?
14 – Describe what books mean to you in five words.

1 – What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

Lately, I’ve only been able to read during weekends, but if I don’t pick up a book for 1-2 days I immediately start feeling guilty. Especially, if I do have some free time but decide to do something else, like watch a movie or go for a walk. The thought that I could be reading instead is constantly on my mind. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2 – How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

My Kindle is always with me. It fits perfectly in my purse, and even though I usually don’t have time to read during the day, I still carry it with me everywhere. At the moment, my Kindle has approximately 10 unread books out of 130.

3 – Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I’m a book hoarder. I keep everything anyone buys me and, of course, I keep all the books I buy for myself. I’m not at the point yet where I’m okay with doing unhauls.

4 – How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

If it’s a thrift book shop, probably an entire morning or afternoon. They usually don’t have their books very organized, maybe only by Category. And because there are so many of them, I usually take my time going through each section that interests me, pulling books out, putting them back in, etc. etc.

In a usual book store, I’d say around 30 minutes. I don’t tend to buy books in shops, so I’ll just stare at the new releases, flip through some pages and then head home to order books online!

5 – How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

I wish I’d spend at least 2-3 hours a day reading, but that usually never happens. I do most of my reading on the weekends, that’s when I can dedicate some time to it. If the book is good, I’ll just sit for as long as I can and read, which sometimes means more than 5 hours straight.

6 – Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

In my head, it’s no. 1 priority for the day to read a certain number of pages or to start / finish a certain book. But in reality, reading is usually the last thing I do at the end of the day if I still have some energy left.

7 – How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

I’d say between 300 and 350. I’ll need to count my physical books the next time I re-organize my shelves.

8 – Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

Like… all the time?

9 – What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

That’s probably «Fall of Giants» by Ken Follett. It’s 985 pages long!

10 – Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds (i.e searching bookshops, online digging, etc.)?

Yes! That would be «Wicked Saints» and I still don’t have it! I searched for it at the stores, didn’t find any. But was lucky to find one online, ordered it, waited for over a month just for them to e-mail me saying that the book is sold out and they don’t know when they will get it! WHAT?!

11 – A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

«Miracle Creek» by Angie Kim. I started reading it in early May. So it’s been 2 and a half month and I still haven’t finished it. I’m almost 50% through it and refuse to DNF! Actually, my goal for the weekend was to finally read it, but that didn’t happen.

12 – What are 3 of your main book goals for 2019?

  1. Read 50 books (and I already completed my GoodReads challenge!! Wheee!!)
  2. Read for fun
  3. Discover new authors

13 – Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

I tried very hard, but unfortunately, everyone has resisted my pressure to turn them into readers. But I’ll always keep trying 🙂

14 – Describe what books mean to you in five words.

I love discovering new worlds!

Uuh, deals and sales!! Yes! Yes! Every time the website I buy books from has any sort of deal or promo, I purchase books. Sometimes they do some sort of deals every week D: lol

  1. AWE MEGHAN! She’s such a sweetheart 🙂

I wish I was more into the Kindle’s or eBooks in general … then I could carry around more books. But I just don’t care for them as much. I’m getting better though!

I like the goals you set for yourself! I also need to expand my author horizons with reading.

That GIF of her smelling the books is me ALL THE TIME! My friends just look at me and laugh, while strangers look at me like I’m rather insane … but that’s okay.

    Great post!

    1. Meghan shall see our comments one day 😀
Kindle is the best thing I’ve ever purchased. So handy, and I use it all the time! I wasn’t a fan of e-books either, but after getting quite a lot ARCs from NetGalley, I think I got used to it, and now I don’t mind it at all. I still prefer physical books ofc, but ebooks are fine too 😀
      Thank you ❤

  2. Ahhhh thank you so much for the tag, Alex, it was so much fun reading your answers! 😍 Omg I vibe so hard with the book hoarding, I think I’ve only ever given away 3 books in my life 😅 Alas, I’ve tried converting my boyfriend & sister to the bookworm life & almost succeeded several times but never quite gotten there 😂

Hope you enjoy the rest of your week, Alex!

    1. Thank you! Hope you’ll enjoy doing this tag 🙂

I don’t think I’ll ever succeed to convert my boyfriend and make him read anything other than car stuff:
Me: “Hey! Do you know how many pages I read last weekend? Almost 2000!”
BF: “Wow! That’s more than I’ve read in my entire life!”

      I mean… 😀

  3. D’aww thanks! 😀
I need some of my own powers because I’ve been procrastinating writing a review for close to a week now! 😂
I agree with you, reading is number one on my to-do list, but actually gets pushed to like 10 by the end of the day, but I still try very hard to read at least 50 pages a day!
Ha, I like your answer for bringing up books in conversations… I’m like that too, or I’ll see someone I work with, with a book and I’m like ‘oooo whatcha reading?’
Damn, you’ve finished your reading challenge, you go girl! I have to say, I’m pretty close to finishing mine too. I love that you put reading for fun, that’s very important to remember!
    Great answers! 😀 💞

  4. I used to think I could never do unhauls, but once I’ve tried it…it felt kind of good haha. I have so many books that I probably will never get to and running out of bookshelf space for new books that I wanted was a constant…so unhaulling has helped lol. I’ve been really interested in reading Miracle Creek. I’d probably go for the audiobook though. I sometimes find it harder to sit and read adult books, because they feel never ending. For some reason I fly through YA though. So I usually get adult books through audiobooks instead. Thanks for tagging me! 😊 I think I did this tag a month or two ago, if you want to check it out, here are my answers: https://sociallyawkwardbookworm.com/2019/05/17/book-tagbook-addiction/

    1. The shelf space is a real struggle, especially now that we are looking to move. And I kinda let my shelves stay a big mess while we figure out the living arrangments. Lol
I’ve been meaning to sort them for the longest time, instead I just buy more books. 👍
Oh, I didn’t know you’ve done it already, I’m going to read it right now!
