Oh, this is going to be fun! This week, I’m actually doing the TTT (Top Ten Tuesday) theme without any twists. I thought it would be difficult to come up with unpopular opinion, but I had way more than 10 that I had to choose from to not make this post pages and pages long.

MY 10 UNPOPULAR BOOKISH OPINIONS

💔 I much prefer The Hunger Games movies over the books. In fact, I only read the first book in the series, and I don’t think I’ll be continuing it.

❌ I would never unhaul books! It’s a hoarder in me talking, but c’mon! Why would I give away books when I can buy more bookshelves? (We actually just purchased new, shiny Billy bookcase and I’m in love. Now, I need a day off to sort my books and make them look BEAUTIFUL! )

P.S. We broke the 1st bookcase we bought and had to drive all the way back to buy another one. This weekend has been stressful… Lol

💔 The Fault in Our Stars is a very sad book that talks about important topics, but I didn’t like it. It was my first John Green novel and for the longest time, I avoided his other books, until last year when I read Turtles All the Way Down and actually enjoyed it a lot more than the Fault in Our Stars.

❌ For whatever reason, I can’t write my posts in MS Word. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I use it at work 24/7, but for blogging, I only use Google Docs. MS Word just doesn’t seem right.

💔 «This Savage Song» was so painful to read! I picked it up during our holidays last year, spending a couple of days lying by the pool. And that might be the only reason why I finished reading it. I really hope that I’ll like her other books.

❌ The 1st and 2nd Harry Potter movies were the best, in my opinion, and the only ones I really loved. The rest of the movies were too dark and didn’t have the same magical feeling.

💔 I didn’t like Jazz Bashara from «Artemis» by Andy Weir. Uhh, I got a lot of comments on my post about all the reasons why I didn’t like her. So I guess it was quite an unpopular opinion. You can check the full list of everything I didn’t like about her here!

❌ I love rainbow bookshelves, but I would never do that to my own shelves if it’d mean that the books in the same series wouldn’t be positioned together. It bothers me. It really does. 😀

💔 Blog Tours are not my favorite posts. And I don’t have anything against them, but I usually never read them, so I don’t see any point of participating.

❌ I HATE love triangles and everything that unnecessarily complicates the relationships in books. This is one of the reasons why I stopped reading Cassandra Clare books, she loves to add some love triangles, and even squares and pentagons, in her stories. Brrr…

BONUS

💔 I read the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin twice, in two different languages, and I don’t like his writing style. There are too many descriptions for my taste, but I think I will eventually give this series another try.

    1. Q&As can be fun, that is true. I guess what I don’t like about blog tours are (1) the promo posts when they offer to just publish the blurb or a sneak peak of the book. I like to see some feedback from the blogger who recommends the book to others. And (2) the strict rules when it comes to reviewing, i.e. if you can’t give 3 or more stars, the organizers of blog tours often ask you to switch to some other type of post (i.e. Q&A, promo, etc.).

  2. Hallo, Hallo Alex,

    Hmm… one of your notations here confused me? You said you don’t like blog tour posts? The irony there is that you favourite a lot of mine and I thought that was a plausible nod towards acknowledging that you liked that kind of content? Or did you mean only the tours which share strictly promo material without the blogger’s input? I wasn’t sure what you meant by that to be honest,… as I review and read a lot of my books as I participate on blog tours.

    Secondly, I do understand what you meant about books to films – I have several myself – in regards to your post though, I only managed to get through part of Sorocer’s Stone before the film aired and I never made it through Chamber of Secrets – I honestly just preferred at the time to forego the books and watch the films; I did the same for LOTR as I just couldn’t focus on reading back then. I do *agree!* with you on how dark HP became as there were many, many moments in those films where I was questioning if I could not just handle them but if I could *survive!* them! If I were to compare the two — the final LOTR broke me, but HP redeemed me. If that makes sense?

    I only let go of the books I’ve either given an DNF too and/or knew after reading them I wouldn’t re-read them. The list is short and few. As like you, I continue to gain more shelves,..

    I’m unsure if I could ever see Fault in Our Stars but when it comes to the other film that released recently, I felt it might be a better fit – though I am sure it will be equally as gutting to watch: Five Feet Apart.

    I never had any interest in GOT if that helps…

    I love reading these posts today.. everyone is more or less in agreement on a lot of levels and some of our differences aren’t that bad either.

    1. I should have clarified more of WHAT exactly I dislike about the blog tours. Review is always a review, whether its in the blog tour formar or not, but what I don’t like is how the organizers of blog tours when they send the book to review always say “if you can’t give this book 3 or more stars, please let us know”, and when that happens they ask to switch to some other post format, for example, a promo post.
      I understand their point of view, of course, they would want only the more positive reviews for the blog tour, but it still doesn’t sit well with me.
      On the other hand, when I see only promo posts, I’d love to have some feedback from the blogger to see why he or she decided to recommend this book to the others.
      Hope this all makes sense 😀

      When the blogger, whose content I already enjoy reading, because of elaborate and detailed review, or some other reasons, decides to participate in the blog tour that fact doesn’t really bother me.

      I loved the GoT TV show, but the ending wasn’t satisfying at all. So now I’m thinking about reading the books to see how George R.R. Martin decides to end the story…

        I thought maybe you might be hinting towards something like this but I wanted to ask because it just threw me into left field when I first read it. I must admit, I don’t entirely like add-on rules myself when it comes to blog tours – I’ve been able to dodge most of those myself – especially when they insist rather than suggest cross-posting reviews. I didn’t start cross-posting my reviews until this year and even then its at my discretion not at the demand of anyone else. As honestly those really can only be suggested not made requirements though most tours do not seem to understand that fine point.

        I never actually post any promotional content without notes attached and/or a reason why I felt that author/book would interest me to be sought out. I like to ‘talk’ to my readers even if they don’t always comment, I try to make my blog sound like a conversation all the same. Or at least that is what I hope it sounds like… 🙂

        I hope for you, the books of GOT is more satisfying… it is hard when we give so many years to series (on tv) and in the end they disappoint our hearts. I’ve been there often enough myself. The last one which did it right was “Rizzoli and Isles” and the last one that did it wrong (rather severely) was “Castle”.

        Ooh indeed! I am having a heap of fun today… though admittedly I need to get back into that Cosy I’m meant to be finishing! lol The sun has already come up to greet me!

        2. Still. The way Castle ended… crushed my whole soul that finale. Rizzoli & Isles had a much better send-off for the fans, I felt. Boy. I still miss those women! I hope to own the series one day on dvd – just to re-live it.

  5. I’m with you on liking the Hunger Games movies more than the books! I always say that I wish the series could have just been one longer book instead of three… they just feel so repetitive!

  6. Nice post! I’m that weirdo that just writes my posts in WordPress … I used to use Google Docs but then I just got tired of copying and pasting ha-ha!

    I also think the first two HP movies are the best in regards to reflecting the novels the most. But I always tend to re-watch the third and fifth movie … even though they miss SO MUCH in the fifth …

    I’m not interested in reading Green’s novels at all … Nothing against him … just not interested.

    Oh man … I LOATHE love triangles! I also can’t stand when things get overly complicated with relationships. I don’t mind the normal bickers that help build a relationship, but these “over the top complexities” are a BIG turn off for me.

    Awesome post! I loved reading this! Oh! And the rainbow book shelf … I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do this too … BUT I LOVE ORDER! I have my books by author last name … it makes searching easier.

    1. I sometimes do that too (writing in the WordPress editor) 😀 But I much prefer Google Docs and have my posts all organized by different categories, etc. etc. I also save all of my posts/images on my laptop. It’s everywhere! 😀

      Ahah, I don’t think I’ll go as far as organizing my books by author’s last name. Maybe when I have more than 5 bookshelves (I already have 4 and one of them is in double row… hmm).

        1. I’ve already warned my bf that when we will be purchasing a house or condo together, it must have a spear room for all my bookshelves, his PC, etc. A perfect cosy office space ❤
          (I'm not sure if he was happy to hear that, but he won't have a choice here 😀 )

  7. I skipped today’s T10T because I figured my unpopular opinions wouldn’t be that unpopular. Lol. I totally prefer The Hunger Games movies over the book too even though I don’t like J.Law as Katniss 🙈

  12. I like blog tours where you can do something fun like a review with fave quotes or a playlist or an interview. I’m not a big fan of promo blog tour stuff. We would only participate in something like that under special circumstances – usually in support of certain authors. Pretty rare for us. I just prefer some type of original content where we can at least add our own flair to it.

    1. Yea, totally agree! Especially when 10 or more bloggers are all posting their reviews of the same book in a short period of time, it’s good to make each post slightly different, add your own spin to it 🙂

  13. Great post! I love reading unpopular opinions, haha! I hate love triangles too – they’re veeery rarely done right. Also, I think George R. R. Martin’s writing style is really dense and hard to get into, and it can get frustrating especially in books 4 and 5, since they’re slow-burn and light on the action. Buuut I do think they’re worth it, for whatever that’s worth. 😂

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I wasn’t satisfied with how GoT show ended, so I definitely want to see what the real ending will be like. But I might wait until the next book is out (is it 6th?) to start reading the series. So maybe by the time I read the 6th, the next will be out as well 😀

  15. I watched TFIS movie and just didn’t like it and all the hype about the book just annoyed the hell out of me so I am not going to read it EVER. I read Savage Song last month when I got my vacations, It was complete torture. I also hate love triangles, they are so annoying.

        1. Oh, I feel the same! Which completely sucks because I already purchased the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy and the 2nd book in the Savage song duology… I really thought I’d immediately fall in love with her books.
          I guess I’ll have to try again and see how it goes *fingers crossed*

  16. Great post! I love rainbow bookshelves too, but I don’t think I could ever do it. I like having my same author books/series together. I thought about maybe doing a little rainbow section or something on one of my bookshelves with books that don’t have the same author or not part of a series, haha. I’m not that big a fan of love triangles either. I usually end up not really enjoying a book to much when it has one.

    1. Thank you so much! I have one “white” shelf and in order to do that, I had to split Sarah J Maas books a bit. 😀 (shh, don’t tell anyone!) 😀
      I guess a lot of people actually enjoy love triangles, because why would so many authors include them in their books if that trope wasn’t popular, but seeing everyone’s comments/posts on unpopular opinions, everyone seems to NOT like them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s an enigma. 😀

  17. Ooooh I adored the Hunger Games movies as well although I can’t rmb if I loved them more than the books 😂 Hahaha it’s so funny but Cassie Clare’s love triangles are the only ones I can stand!! Also her newer books don’t have any 😂

  18. I agree that the first and second Harry Potter movies were the best.They were perfect adaptations, especially had perfect casting. I mean Chris Columbus is a genius director when it comes to kids’ films (Home Alone, Mrs Doubtfire). His movies are always very entertaining and create a special kind of magic that can only be found in films featuring children.

  19. Lol at the Song of Ice and Fire one. Maybe try to the audiobook to see if that works for you. It can be confusing though if you’re unfamiliar with audiobooks because of all the characters.
    I didn’t like Fault in Our Stars either and haven’t tried a John Green book since.
    My unpopular opinion: I don’t like any of the HP movies, but I agree the first and second are better than the rest.

    1. I definitely love HP books waaaaay more than the movies. But the first two captured the magical world and I love them for that 🙂
      The Game of Thrones… I really want to see what GRRM comes up with, and how he wraps the things up, because the TV show was not satisfying at all. So I might wait for more books to be out and then give them another try 😀
