My Good Reading Habits | Book Tag

Oh, this was not easy! I thought I was decent when it came to reading books, especially since I’ve been doing that since I was little. I thought, I might have developed some good habits along the way!

I was wrong.

It literally took me over 2 hours to come up with FOUR good reading habits. So that’s what we are going with today.

Thank you, Meghan for tagging me! This post really helped me realized that I need to develop some more reading habits. 😀

The Rules:

1 – List some of your good reading habits.
2 – Tag the person who tagged you.
3 – Pingback to the original post by Ally Writes Things.
4 – Nominate some of your blogging friends.

1 – CONTENT > COVER

Who doesn’t like beautiful covers?? Especially those we can feature on our bookstagram! I love them, and if I’d had an unlimited budget to spend on books, I’d buy every single beautiful book out there. But for now (as I’m working on that unlimited budget), I have to choose my books wisely.

This is funny, because just last week I talked about 10 Gorgeous Books on my Shelves! 😀 However, those are probably the ONLY gorgeous books I own. And it doesn’t really bother me. When buying books, I always take my time to select the books I’m the most excited about, and rarely buy the new releases, as I prefer to wait 6 months – 1 year for that mass-market paperback to be released that costs half a price of the newly released hardcover.

The only book I purchased because of the cover was «The Bear and the Nightingale» by Katherine Arden. I received the ARC via NetGalley and fell in love with Vasya and the story. So I decided that I need to have my own physical copy of the book and later the entire trilogy, with those beautiful dust jackets. ❤

2 – NO! TO DUPLICATES

I just don’t like to have multiple copies of the same book. It’s alright if it was gifted, but then I’d probably pass it on to someone else. But I’d never spend money on the book I already own.

The only exception to this rule are the Illustrated Editions of Harry Potter.

3 – I’M A VERY “NEAT” READER

There are a lot of things I DON’T do to my books:

  • dog earing pages;
  • folding pages;
  • cracking spines;
  • annotating in books or any sort of writing / drawing in books;
  • reading with dust jackets on, etc.

4 – READ ONE BOOK AT A TIME

I don’t even know anymore if I can still be proud of having my focus on one book at a time, because last weekend I’ve started reading FIVE books. It’s this weird reading mood, when I can’t choose what I want to read, and don’t really feel connected to the book I pick up.

  1. thank you so much for tagging me, I loved your habits ^^
    I’m a very messy reader, so I’ll have the hardest time trying to come up with good habits haha but I’ll figure something out!

    1. You can always “create” some new good reading habits! 😀 Looking forward to seeing yours.

      Meghan, who tagged me, had as one of her habits – writing reviews close to finishing books. And I really want to copy her habit and make it my own, because I keep struggling with all those reviews I have to write!

  2. Oh my, I don’t know what I would do without annotating books! I’m also a horrible offender of reading more than one book at a time. At the moment I’m reading three… may be up to four this weekend haha. Great tag 🙂

    1. Oh no! Writing in books??? Reading multiple??? How dare you! Ahahah 😀

      I’m currently in a middle of three books as well (which is very new to me) and I don’t think I’m enjoying it. Lol You’d think the logical way out of this situation would be to read them one by one, but no! Instead I keep ignoring all three! It’s a real struggle 😀

    1. I probably should have put a disclaimer next to that gif that “I turn the pages of the books very carefully, look at Chandler doing it wrong!” 😀
      You could make many piles of the same books! And it would feel like a book store! 👍👍

  3. Thank you for tagging me Alex☺️ I can’t think of a single good habit right now so this will be fun!😂 I need to work on not being a messy reader! I love my books but I need to take better care of them! And the Harry Potter dupes can slide, who doesn’t want to buy every single edition that gets released😉

    1. Ahaha, then you’ll definitely enjoy coming up with good habits 😀 (at least it made me realize that I need to up my “good reading habits” game).

  4. Thank you for doing the tag!! 💖💖

    These are so great! I’m the same about content > covers. Obviously, I love gorgeous covers, but I also want to be actually interested in a book too. And SAME about no duplicates!!! I don’t understand when people have several copies of the same books

    1. You’re welcome! Hope you’ll have fun with it! 🙂
      I have only bought 1 or 2 books for their covers, but I’m definitely guilty of NOT buying books if I don’t like the covers, or when I know that there are other editions of that book I like more. Woops! 😀

    1. Your boyfriend knows how to keep you happy! 😀
      Illustarted editions of HP, maybe throw in some wands or candles or pillows in the mix, and we can live happily ever after. Ahaha (I need to show this comment to my Boyfriend…hm..)

  5. Haha yay! I’m glad you enjoyed doing this! You have some really good reading habits… even if you could only think of four. You could always call each of your neat habits one of their own and it would be more! I agree with you on that, I’m also a neat reader, although you beat me at that last one, I read hardcovers with the dust cover on… I’m weird. Usually I don’t have a choice with library books, but with my own I keep them on, I can’t even explain to you why I do that 😛
    Harry Potter is one of the only books I own multiple copies of (original, limited 20th anniversary edition, and illustrated) but I do own 2 copies of Dorian Gray because I read it ever year I thought 10 years of reading it I should start reading a new copy (or newer copy as the newest one I have my co-worker gave me her copy because she didn’t want it 😛 )
    Great answers for this tag! 😀

  6. Thank you so much for tagging me! I break all your neat reader don’ts. Lol! I dog ear my pages when I can’t find something to mark my page. I also annotate my books. But only books I re-read. Because at that point, it means I really like the book and won’t be giving it away. Lol!
