OWLs Read-a-Thon | Wrap Up

My goal was to follow an Auror career, which required me to complete a total of 5 OWLs: Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration. Out of 5 books that I initially planned to read, I only read 2, but I’m sure that other books could potentially fit in with the prompt as well. (Check my initial TBR list here!)

The only book that didn’t fit in any of the prompts is «Queen of Air and Darkness» by Cassandra Clare – the 3rd and final book in the Dark Artifices trilogy. The «Mortal Instruments» will forever be one of my favorite YA fantasy series, and also the books that rekindled my love for fictional stories, got me into reading in English, and inspired to begin my own blog. But after taking months and months to read this final book in the Dark Artifices series, I realized that I’ve outgrown her stories.

I didn’t like this final book, mainly because of the love triangle (was it even a love triangle?). And I won’t be reviewing or rating it.

charms: adult book

As planned, for this one I read «The Farm» by Joanne Ramos. In this book, Joanna Ramos explores important questions of today – The generalization of masses, Poverty and Immigration, and most importantly, Surrogacy, making you think and question everything!

DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS: TITLE START WITH AN «R»

It happened that the title of one of the ARCs I requested started with an “R” – «Ricochet» by Kethryn Berla, a new YA Sci-Fi novel that will be coming out later this year. It was a decent read, but unfortunately, I didn’t like it as much as I hoped I would.

herbology: plant on the cover

I thought I’d fail this one, but «Then She was Gone» by Lisa Jewell has plenty of tree branches on its cover! This was my Audiobook of the month, and despite its popularity, it failed to surprise me. The full review is already on my blog and you can read it HERE!

POTIONS: SEQUEL

For this one, I went with the 2nd book in the School of Psychics series by K.C. Archer – «The Astral Traveler’s Daughter». If you’ve ever seen «The Magicians» TV show, this book is exactly like it. A boarding school for Adults who have some psychic powers!

transfiguration: sprayed edges or red cover

Not exactly a red cover, but pink is very close to red, and I didn’t read any other books that could potentially fall into this category, so I’m counting in «Saga Vol.2». Besides, he is wearing a red jacket!

And as a bonus, I also completed the Divination exam and read a book set in the future – «Mimic» by C.L. Denault!

With a grand total of 6/12 OWLs exams completed!

how many owls did you complete? will you be joining the newts read-a-thon later this year?

  1. Great job!

I didn’t really look into the O.W.L.s Readathon until the very end of the month, but when I checked out the prompts and then looked at the 19 books I read in April, I realized that I had actually completed 10 of the 12 O.W.L.s so, I might end up joining in on the N.E.W.T.s later in the year.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I should have added some more graphic novels, but I didn’t have any that would fit the themes… I guess I need to book shop! Lol (I’ll come up with any excuse to buy more books 😀 )
