April 2019 Wrap Up | When I realized that I’m not a superman!

Last month, I was the most productive self – running errands, writing reviews, keeping up with the blog, and reading tons of books. Everything was possible! (you can read my March Wrap Up here!) And then came April…

WHAT HAPPENED IN APRIL

1 – I realized that I’m not a superman and not a superwoman. My energy resources were completely drained (from March productivity I guess) and every task was the most horrible chore that was ever bestowed on me.

My way of dealing with this was to add even more tasks on my To-Do list! This might sound ridiculous to you, but I feel like resting doesn’t really help me overcome the unproductive periods in my life, so instead, I usually push myself even harder! So April was a constant battle to stay on top of things (and I think I’ve managed just fine!)

2 – Blog hopping became a habit, and I’m so glad that I finally made time to consistently browse through your blogs, read posts and talk to all of you in the comments section! Blog hopping isn’t just a “marketing tool”, it’s a great way to (1) make friends who have the same interests/hobbies as you; (2) see what everyone else is talking about; (3) take inspiration in others’ posts and ideas, and (4) just have fun!

Bookish community is one of the nicest ones and we definitely should take advantage of that by reaching out to fellow bloggers!

3 – I joined in on some Top Ten Tuesday topics! I don’t know why I stayed away from memes for so many years, they are so fun to do!

First of all, it’s a guaranteed post idea that is given to you every week, and even though I don’t stick very close to the theme, it helps to boost my imagination.

And secondly, there are many bloggers who take the same idea and put their own spin on it. It was so much fun seeing everyone’s Rainy Days Book Recommendations and the First 10 Books that people reviewed!

4 – I also tried my luck with some Tags, that I haven’t done in almost 2 years!  Thank you, everyone, who tagged me recently for giving the much-needed push to finally start doing various book tags and awards.

5 – My first ever bookish quiz became available to all of you in April. I have to say that I’m very proud of myself for creating it.

Ever since I received the ARC of the 2nd book in Of Blood and Bone series by John Gwynne, I knew I had to make something special for it. I started toying around with the idea of a character quiz, slowly coming up with descriptions for various characters, questions, and structure of the quiz. It took me a very long time to find the right website to make it on. But it’s finally up on my blog! TAKE THE QUIZ and let me know Which Of Blood and Bone character you are!

6 – OWLs Read-a-Thon was a lot of fun and I think I didn’t fail. But I can’t be sure until I write my OWLs wrap up, because I’ve been switching books back and forth, and didn’t stick with my original TBR. So hopefully *fingers crossed* I did fine. Will start on my OWLs wrap up after finishing this post, so stay tuned!

7 – Somehow I failed almost all of my monthly goals! Let’s take a look:

X 1 – Schedule rest days.
Nope, didn’t happen. Rest days will have to wait, because my To-Do list just gets longer and longer every week.
X 2 – Leave fewer things for the weekend.
Yeah.. well, I think this one might be impossible. *A pat on the back for trying though*. I wrote a few posts here and there, especially reviews, during the week, but it’s impossible to have it all done after long working hours.
X 3 – Write those reviews!
Ha-ha.. ha… ha. I actually did write some reviews, but far from all of them. And I think I have more pending reviews now than I had at the end of March.
4 – Keep up with Blog and Reading goals!
That I did (more or less). My goal is to post at least 3 times a week. And there were two weeks in April when I only managed to produce two posts, but there were other weeks when I posted 4 times, so I’m happy about that.
X 5 – Read 10 books!
Unfortunately, I didn’t. I’m writing this post on April 27th and currently, I have 7 read books. I might finish another one before the month ends.
6 – Participate in OWLs Read-a-Thon
Yes! Not sure if successfully or not, but I participated in my first read-a-thon of 2019. Woop-Woop!
7 – Read ARCs.
As you will be able to see below at my Monthly Reading Stats, I actually read more ARCs than Non-ARCs!

8 –Almost forgot to mentions that I’ve been enjoying the hype around the final season of Game of Thrones!!! Can’t wait to see the grand finale. There will be so many sad moments, I can feel it already.

MONTHLY READING STATS

I’m 13 books ahead of schedule for my GoodReads challenge! Which is very exciting. I read a total of 7 books in April with the vast majority being fantasy.

  1. I absolutely adore your blog post and hope you’ll find some time to relax and rest in May!
I too realized that I was Superman this month and it was hard to take the time to finally do nothing, but I’m glad I did.
I read 10 books in April and I’m super happy about it!!

    1. Thank you 🙂 and congratulations on reading 10 books! I think that is always the number I try for, every single month. Even though the usual number of books I read is 7-8.

What is your GoodReads goal this year?

I always set it up to 50 books and always hoping that I will be able to read 100. Ahaha
This year (considering how my reading’s been so far) I might hit 50 by the end of June!

    1. Thank you, you are right! Looking back on it, April was actually very good (even though it didn’t always feel like it 😀 ).

I saw a couple of people saying that they will be doing OWLs some other month (May / June), to get the credits for the NEWTs in August. So you still have plenty of time before the NEWTs come!! 🙂

        1. Not exactly extending, but I saw someone saying that they discovered this read-a-thon too late in the month, and so instead of doing it in April with everyone else, they’d do it on their own in May or June.
This way they can get all the necessary points for NEWTs 🙂

  2. Wow you had lots happening on the blog! It’s good to get back into memes… says the one who hasn’t been doing them all year! 😛 TTT is a fun one, I did that last year, and I’m thinking of bringing it back sometime in the future.
That’s okay that you didn’t get all your goals achieved this month, it just gives you something to strive harder for net month!
I hope you have a great May! 😀

    1. Thank you ❤

I have to admit that I don't like ALL of TTT topics, but some of them are pretty fun, and we can always change then a little 😉 I hope you'll join in May, they have quite a lot of fun stuff planned.

Ahah, that's true! I still need to write my May's goals, It will be one of my weekend task.

      1. Some TTT are easy some really take some time and brain power 😛
I probably won’t join in May because I have so much going on in my personal life, maybe the second half of the year! I hope you have fun with it though, and I look forward to your posts! 😀

I’ve been thinking of bringing monthly goals to the blog, but that takes effort… and I’ve been really lazy with my blog. I hope you get to make your goals… and sticking to them! 🙂

        1. Thank you 🙂 I think I will only participate in 2 TTT this month. Will see how it goes.

I’ve been meaning to write my May goals all day today.. It’s currently 9.30 pm and I still haven’t even started. Ahaha

  3. As you wrote, things went kinda fine! But I get the feek with monthly goals. My month has been… messy? So I ended up reading very few books.
Anyway, yay for blog hopping. I totally failed it but I’m trying to do better this month. Because, wow, I missed blog hopping.

My month is books has been short in numbers, because I read five, but explored the non fiction side, which is a thing I used to do rarely

    1. I hope May will be a better month for you 🙂 I loved how you described April as “messy”, it definitely was for me too! (I just couldn’t find the right word until now 🙂 )

5 books is great! Last year I was in such a big reading slump that there were months when I didn’t read a single book. (Unspeakable!) 😀

What are you planning to read in May? Any specific books on your radar?

    1. The checklist took a while to create. I’m so glad someone noticed it. Ahahah 😀

Thank you, I hope May will treat you well too.

I haven’t even started my May Goals post yet (and it’s already May 5…) Time flies!

  4. I was definitely drained in April, too. It was kinda this really weirdly collective emotion?? I’ve read so many Wrap-Ups that mention a similar feeling, it’s kinda woah and kinda weird and just all around #relatable. Yes to enjoying the hype around Game of Thrones!! ❤ I'm not personally super involved because I stopped watching after season 2 but I just love all the passion and joy that spreads through the fandoms and it's so fascinating and awesome to see everyone being amazed and emotional about the same thing!
