OWLs Read-a-Thon | My 2019 wizarding career!

That’s right! The most exciting Read-a-Thon for all Harry Potter fans is starting on the 1st of April. Have you chosen the career to pursue this year?

Created by Book Roast, this is a magical read-a-thon inspired by the first Hogwarts exams – OWLs (Ordinary Wizarding Level). You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to join in. You may join just for the sake of the challenge! But if you ARE Harry Potter fan, this is going to be a year long read-a-thon with a lot of fun challenges along the way.

Make sure to check out Book Roast’s video and download the Wizarding Career Leaflet!

I didn’t actually participate last year (not sure what my problem was!). But it sounds like a lot of fun! I have tons of ARCs that need to be read ASAP, so I thought it would be a great idea to challenge myself to complete some of the requirements of the OWLs read-a-thon.

The career I’ve chosen to pursue is Auror (of course). That means that the OWLs I have to complete are: Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions and Transfiguration. I’ll add a few more just in case I will want to change my career later on.

charms: adult book

I’m going with «The Farm» by Joanne Ramos. It’s going to be published on May 7th, 2019 by Random House Publishing Group. This will be the perfect time for me to pick it up.

Nestled in New York’s Hudson Valley is a luxury retreat boasting every amenity: organic meals, personal fitness trainers, daily massages—and all of it for free. In fact, you’re paid big money to stay here—more than you’ve ever dreamed of. The catch? For nine months, you cannot leave the grounds, your movements are monitored, and you are cut off from your former life while you dedicate yourself to the task of producing the perfect baby. For someone else.

DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS: TITLE START WITH AN «R»

Technically, this one starts with «T», but we are going to overlook this and count it anyway. It’s one of those books that has been on my TBR for many months and needs to be read as soon as possible.

herbology: plant on the cover

A new standalone YA fantasy by Mary Weber that came out on March 19th! There are plenty of plants on the cover, right??

Every year for the past fifty-four years, the residents of Pinsbury Port receive a mysterious letter inviting all eligible-aged boys to compete for an esteemed scholarship to the all-male Stemwick University. Every year, the poorer residents look to see that their names are on the list. The wealthier look to see how likely their sons are to survive. And Rhen Tellur opens it to see if she can derive which substances the ink and parchment are created from, using her father’s microscope.

P.S. I was going to start reading this book last Sunday, and Oops… I couldn’t put it down, finished the whole book in one day. Now I need to come up with some other title for the Herbology exam!

POTIONS: SEQUEL

The sequel to «School for Psychics» by K.C. Archer that I recently reviewed on my blog, is also coming out sometime in April and I need to get my ARCs under control.
Also, this one is like a harry potter for adults, perfect for this read-a-thon!

transfiguration: sprayed edges or red cover

This is kind of red, so we are going to count it in too. A new fantasy series that is coming out in August this year!

The Falkyn sisters bear a burden and a legacy. Their mother, the imperial magiel of the kingdom of Orumon, protects her people from the horrors of the afterlife by calling upon the Gods with a precious Prayer Stone. But war among the kingdoms has brought fire and destruction to their sheltered world.
