An Overly Ambitious TBR | January 2019

I shall start this year strong! Hence, I picked a total of 9 (yes, you heard me right – NINE) books to read in January. It’s been a while since I was able to read more than 6 books per month, and my internship started this week. But I believe in myself! And big books don’t scare me at all. (well.. maybe a little bit).

Sadly, many new books released in January won’t arrive in time for me to read them all in January. They will just have to queue for the next month’s TBR.

The very first book on my to-be-read list is «Origin» by Dan Brown. I’m already halfway through it and LOVING every page.

It’s been so long since I’ve read any of Dan Brown books that I forgot how much I enjoyed reading them. The best features of all his books are the real places, objects, history elements that Dan Brown craftily weaves into his narrative. And you can just google them and see exactly what they look like!

«The Amber Spyglass» by Philip Pullman
«La Belle Sauvage» by Philip Pullman

The next two books I really want to get to in January, and simultaneously keep up with my 2019 reading goals, are «The Amber Spyglass» and «La Belle Sauvage» by Philip Pullman.
«The Amber Spyglass» is the conclusion to His Dark Materials trilogy. Very interested to see how everything ends. But then! «La Belle Sauvage» is the 1st book in the Book of Dust series, set in the same world as his previous books.

As I mentioned in my 2018 wrap up post, I want to finally finish the last series I’m reading by Cassandra Clare, and just put her books away. I won’t be reading any new works by her. And also I just need to read the last book in the Darkest Minds series, and take them off my list.

«Queen of Air and Darkness» by Cassandra Clare
«In the Afterlight» by Alexandra Bracken

And of course, my first Brandon Sanderson book – «The Final Empire»! I’ve heard so many amazing things about this series and his books in general, that I’m scared to go into them with such high expectations. Hopefully, it will deliver.

There are also some ARCs that I’m hoping to read in January:

«The Happiness Project» by Pippa James
«The Girl in the Corner» by Amanda Prowse
«The Vampire of Maple Town» by Kane McLoughlin
«The Very Principled Maggie Mayfield» by Kathy Cooperman

I think that is enough books for one month. What are you planning to read in January? What book are you the most excited about?

  1. Love this list!! I don’t make monthly TBRs because I’m a big fan of reading what I want to read in the moment (and I’m terrible at sticking to them lol), but I just finished reading The Thousandth Floor and picked up From Twinkle With Love.

    1. 😀 And some of them are very LOOONG. It’s 11th of Jan right now and I already read 2 of them, it’s scary, but I think I might be able to read most of them, if not all. *fingers crossed*
Will be starting «The Amber Spyglass» tonight!

      1. Man…I’m SO jealous of your reading achievements so far. I’m HOPING to finish the following by the end of January:

        1. Alex, Approximately
        2. Crooked Kingdom
        3. From Twinkle, with Love
        4. Cocktails with a Dead Man (received an ARC)
        5. The Hate U Give (possibly)

        But really…I will probably get 2…MAYBE 3 done…

YUS!!! The Amber Spyglass!! Seriously…I need to re-read this series!

  2. You’ve got quite the list! The Queen of Air and Darkness is on my list this month too… for some reason I decided that I was going to pick all big books this month; everything I’ve read is over 500 pages! 😛 😀 Happy reading!

    1. Thank you! The Queen of Air and Darkness is humongous! (at least the font size is quite large compared to some other books). I want to finish «The Amber Spyglass» before Sunday and dedicate the entire Sunday to Cassandra Clare’s monster. 😀
