The third book in the series about Cormoran Strike was definitely one of my most expected books of 2016. I’ve read all of the previous books (obviously, because J.K. Rowling!) and I LOVED them! I thought the third one will be even better! But was it???
BLURB:
When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a womanās severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but not less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible – and Strike knows that any of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.

WHAT I LIKED:
- Ever since Iāve read the first book I fell in love with Robin and Cormoran. Their relationship was far from perfect, but it was interesting to follow. (I am sure, all of us are secretly hoping that they will eventually end up together! Right?!) āCareer of Evilā brought it all to another level! It was INTENSE! OH MY GOD!
- Aaaaandā¦ THAT WAS IT. I spent hours thinking: āWhat else was good? What else did I enjoy besides the relationship aspect?ā And honestly, I couldnāt think of a single thing. Ā
WHAT I DISLIKED:
- DESCRIPTIONS, DESCRIPTIONS AND SOME MORE DESCRIPTIONS. It was too much, it was distracting, it would pull me out of the story. When the whole page or two or three are pure descriptions of places, people, past memories – I donāt know about you but itās like a switch off button for the movie rolling in my head.
- NOT ENOUGH ACTION – this is a crime book, it is supposed to be filled with mysteries and action! Neither of them were on point for me. I would even say that some moments were dull and boring (I love J.K. Rowling just as much as everyone else, but yes, it was DULL!)
- Almost 600 pages and it was SLOW. I am not going to lie, I skipped some pages, I skipped few paragraphs that were completely unnecessary.
- THE ENDING! I was expecting major mystery unfold, something mind-blowing. That didnāt happen!
My rating:
ā
It was quite a disappointment for me. The first two books I devoured in less than 2 days, completely flying through them. They were captivating, mysterious and delightful to read.
Will I read any more books in the series (if there will be any)? – YES! And the only reason is Robin and Cormoran! I just need, NEED, to know how everything ends!
Let me know in the comments below if you read any of Cormoran Strike books. What did you think about them?
Love,
Alex
I’ve read Cuckoo’s Calling..it was just meh for me. I think it moved a little too slow for my liking that I never ended up finishing it.

That’s a shame. I actually loved Cuckoo’s Calling. But I read it in Russian and, honestly, I think translation was so much better than the original (one of rare cases :D)

I haven’t read her books yet, but I do plan to see how Rowling does in this genre. It’s quite unfortunate that it actually got a 1 star though! Oh how expectations betray us!

I have only read the first book, and what I realised is I’m not that huge a fan of the genre. But I want to reread it and see if my thoughts change. It was my first detective/crime story I’ve ever read

I’d advise to read Dan Brown books or even other crime books, just because Robert Galbraith’s novels can be a bit slow. And I want everyone to see how amazing crime / thriller genre is! š

Alex, interesting. I have ‘sort of’ enjoyed all three books but, I have to say that I think JK’s genius in the characters she creates. I haven’t found any of the stories massively gripping but the Cormoran and Robin thing and wish-washy Matthew – I really do need to know what will happen with them too! It’s been quite a while since Career of Evil was published. Maybe the next instalment is due soon!
